The second bioblitz looked at Bartlett Estate (Cato Ridge), a small patch of diverse and relatively undisturbed KZN Sandstone sourveld grassland which has been bought by eThekwini Municipality and earmarked for formal protection. The property is adjacent to Mpumalanga township and surrounded by transformed farmlands, highlighting the threats facing these ecosystems and the dire need to conserve what remains of this vegetation type. Baseline biodiversity data generated from this bioblitz will help motivate to get this site officially proclaimed as a protected area.
