The Centre for Functional Biodiversity (CFB) at the University of KwaZulu-Natal will bring together leading researchers with expertise in studying the origins, distribution and maintenance of biodiversity and the functioning of ecosystems. 

The Centre will focus on postgraduate training through the solving of real-world problems in basic and applied biological sciences. It will aim to be a national and international centre of expertise in a region in which high levels of biodiversity intersect with rapid environmental change.
